One Simple Thing Reading is so important to our children’s lives. From following a recipe to doing well in history class, our children are constantly exposed to reading (and writing, for that matter). One Simple Thing is a daily activity you can do with your children to increase their reading or pre-reading skills. All of these have been tried and tested, as I used most of these fun games and activities to teach my children to read before starting Kindergarten. One Simple Thing – For Babies Throughout the day, point out scents to your baby (“The grass must have been cut recently; I smell fresh-cut grass”). One Simple Thing – For Toddlers and Preschoolers Today, take out three to four spices or extracts. Be careful not to let your little one put her nose directly above the container, but rather teach her to use one hand to “fan” the scent toward her face.
